Malda, West Bengal: The recent deployment of Mine-Protected Vehicles (MPVs) by central forces in Malda has drawn significant public attention, with many residents expressing curiosity about these heavily armored vehicles seen moving through key areas of the district.
Officials confirmed that these vehicles—commonly known as Casspir or “bulletproof troop carriers”—are not ordinary transport units, but are specially designed for operations in high-risk and sensitive zones. Built with advanced protective features, MPVs are capable of withstanding landmine blasts and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks, ensuring maximum safety for security personnel.
One of the defining features of these vehicles is their V-shaped hull design. This engineering allows the impact of an explosion from beneath the vehicle to be deflected away from the cabin, significantly reducing the risk of casualties. In addition, the body and windows of the MPVs are fully bulletproof, offering protection against heavy gunfire.
Security experts stated that these vehicles are primarily used to transport personnel safely in areas where there is a potential threat of violence or sabotage. The elevated structure of the vehicle also allows personnel to maintain surveillance over a wide area and respond swiftly if required.
The deployment comes amid heightened vigilance in certain parts of Malda, particularly in border-adjacent regions and geographically challenging char areas, which are often considered sensitive from both administrative and security perspectives. Authorities emphasized that the move is a precautionary measure aimed at strengthening security arrangements and ensuring rapid response capability in case of any untoward incidents.
