Poonch, 06 April 2026

Continuing its sustained efforts to combat drug abuse and promote a drug-free society, District Police Poonch organized a series of comprehensive drug awareness programmes across various villages falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Loran.

These programmes were conducted in villages including Lohil Bela, Barachhar, Markote, Chikhriban, and Loran, with active participation from members of the local community. The initiatives witnessed encouraging public response, particularly from youth, elders, and other stakeholders, reflecting a growing awareness and concern regarding the menace of substance abuse.

During the sessions, participants were sensitized about the harmful effects of drug addiction on physical and mental health, as well as its adverse impact on families and society at large. The programmes also focused on educating the public about early identification of drug abuse, preventive measures, and the importance of timely intervention and rehabilitation.

Emphasis was laid on community policing and the collective responsibility of society in eradicating drug-related issues. Attendees were urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing any information related to drug trafficking or abuse.

The programmes further highlighted the legal provisions under the NDPS Act, reinforcing awareness about the stringent penalties associated with drug-related offences. Interactive discussions were held to address queries and encourage open dialogue, ensuring better understanding and community engagement.

District Police Poonch reiterates its firm commitment to continue such awareness drives and outreach programmes to curb the drug menace and safeguard the future of the youth.
