Civil Surgeon, District Immunisation Officer Appeal to Parents: Ensure HPV Vaccination for 14-15-Year-Old Girls
Hoshiarpur/ April 3/
Daljeet Ajnoha
Under the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr Mandeep Kamal and supervision of District Immunisation Officer Dr Seema Garg, the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination drive for girls' health protection continues in Hoshiarpur district. Health department officials shared that over 200 doses have been successfully administered in the district in the past month.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mandeep Kamal stated that the HPV vaccine is a highly effective and safe measure to protect girls from cervical cancer. She informed that the vaccine is being provided free of cost to girls aged 14-15 years at all government health facilities in the district, including the district hospital, sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres, and primary health centres. She appealed to parents to bring their eligible daughters to the nearest health centre on Saturday, April 4, 2026, and ensure they receive the vaccine.
District Immunisation Officer Dr Seema Garg said in her statement that the HPV vaccine is highly beneficial for preventing cervical cancer, which is the second most common cancer among women in India. She noted that the vaccine costs around ₹4,000 or more at private health facilities, while it is completely free at government centres. The vaccine is entirely safe with no serious side effects.
She further urged parents to get their daughters vaccinated before the examination season begins, to avoid any obstacles and enable the maximum number of girls to benefit from this vital vaccine.
