Karaj Bridge Destroyed Amid Rising US-Iran Tensions

Karaj, Iran | April 2, 2026

A major airstrike destroyed the B1 bridge near Karaj, west of Tehran, killing at least eight civilians and injuring around 95 others, according to Iranian state media reports.

The attack marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, which began in late February following coordinated strikes on Iranian military and infrastructure targets.

International media reports indicate that the bridge — considered one of the tallest and strategically important structures in the region — collapsed after being hit in a targeted strike. Iranian authorities claimed the attack also disrupted emergency response efforts, with some reports alleging a second strike aimed at rescue teams.

US President Donald Trump appeared to take responsibility for the strike, warning that further military action could follow if Iran does not agree to negotiations. In a public statement, he urged Tehran to “make a deal before it is too late,” signaling continued pressure from Washington.

However, there remains conflicting information regarding Israel’s direct involvement. While Iranian state media described the operation as a joint US-Israel strike, some international sources suggest the attack may have been carried out primarily by US forces.

The strike is part of a broader and intensifying conflict that has seen repeated attacks on infrastructure, including military bases, transport networks, and, according to some reports, civilian facilities. Human rights groups have raised concerns over the growing number of civilian casualties and potential violations of international law.

Iran has strongly condemned the attack, calling it an act of aggression and vowing retaliation. Officials warned that continued strikes could further destabilize the region and lead to a wider conflict.

The international community, including the United Nations, has expressed alarm over the escalating situation, urging immediate de-escalation to prevent a broader regional war.

As tensions continue to rise, the humanitarian and geopolitical consequences of the conflict are expected to deepen in the coming days.
