India’s Digital Censorship Debate Intensifies Amid New IT Rules 2026

March 2026 mein Indian authorities ne X (Twitter) aur Meta jaise platforms par kai accounts aur posts ko block ya restrict karne ke orders diye.

Inmein journalists, satirical accounts, cartoonists aur independent creators bhi shamil the. Yeh actions mainly IT Act ke Section 69A aur Section 79 ke tehat liye gaye.

30 March 2026 ko Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ne naye draft IT Rules Amendment 2026 release kiye, jisme ab ordinary users, influencers aur YouTubers ke “news-type content” ko bhi regulation ke under lane ka proposal hai.
Iske saath government directives ko follow karna platforms ke liye mandatory banaya ja raha hai, warna unka safe harbour status khatre mein pad sakta hai.

Critics jaise Internet Freedom Foundation ka kehna hai ki yeh steps digital censorship aur “authoritarian control” ko badha sakte hain. Unka maanna hai ki isse freedom of speech par “chilling effect” padega aur chhote creators ko zyada impact hoga.

Government ka stance hai ki yeh rules misinformation ko control karne aur internet ko safer banane ke liye zaroori hain. Filhaal draft par public feedback 14 April 2026 tak open hai aur issue abhi bhi evolving stage mein hai.
