Opening Ceremony of Police Martyrs Cricket Tournament Held at Sports Stadium Surankote

Poonch, March 28, 2026:
District Police Poonch today organised the opening ceremony of the Police Martyrs Cricket Tournament at the Sports Stadium in Surankote with great enthusiasm and active public participation. The tournament has been organised to honour the supreme sacrifices of brave police martyrs who laid down their lives in the service of the nation and to promote sportsmanship and positive engagement among the youth.

The opening ceremony was graced by SSP Poonch Sh. Shafqat Bhat (JKPS) as the Chief Guest. Among others present on the occasion were Addl. SP Poonch Sh. Mohan Lal Sharma (JKPS), DySP DAR Poonch Sh Shashikant Raina, SDPO Surankote Sh. Surinder Singh (JKPS), and Principal GDC Surankote Dr. Rani Mughal as Guest of Honour, along with other senior officers, civil society members, prominent citizens, and a large gathering of spectators and youth.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest paid rich tributes to the police martyrs and remembered their courage, dedication, and sacrifice for the nation. He highlighted the importance of such sports initiatives in promoting discipline, teamwork, and constructive engagement among the youth, and emphasized that sports play a vital role in steering young minds towards positive activities and away from social evils. He encouraged all participating teams to play with dedication, maintain sportsmanship, and uphold the spirit of unity, brotherhood, and fair play.

The event commenced with the formal inauguration of the tournament, followed by the introduction of participating teams. The opening match was played amid great enthusiasm and cheering from the spectators, marking the formal commencement of the tournament.

District Police Poonch reiterated its commitment towards strengthening police-public relations and promoting youth participation through sports.
