District-Level Awareness Seminar Held on World Oral Health Day

In line with the Punjab Health Department's directives, a district-level awareness seminar on World Oral Health Day was organized at the Multipurpose Health Worker Training School in Hoshiarpur under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal. Key attendees included Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Ranjeet Singh, District Dental Officer Dr. Kapil Dogra, Dental Surgeons Dr. Navneet Kaur, Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Dr. Sanam, Principal Sukkhavinder Kaur, and tutors from the training school. The event was compered by District Mass Media Officer Tarsem Lal and Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur.Key Highlights from SpeakersDr. Mandeep Kamal emphasized that World Oral Health Day is observed annually on March 20 to promote awareness about oral and dental hygiene. He advised brushing at least twice a day—morning and night after meals—using a soft brush and cleaning the tongue as well, warning that neglecting teeth can lead to serious illnesses. Dr. Ranjeet Singh highlighted oral cancer risks from tobacco, gutkha, cigarettes, and alcohol, urging people not to ignore symptoms like persistent mouth sores, lumps, white or red patches, or difficulty swallowing. He appealed for shunning addictions and regular dental check-ups for early detection and prevention.Dr. Kapil Dogra introduced this year's theme, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,” stressing that healthy teeth are vital for proper speech, aesthetics, digestion, and gum health. Dr. Navneet Kaur demonstrated correct brushing for 1-2 minutes to remove trapped food particles, preventing decay, gum inflammation, bleeding, and plaque buildup that can lead to severe issues. A poster competition on dental awareness was also held for nursing students, with top performers awarded certificates.
