PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur organizes awareness camp on dairy animal management and climate change

An awareness camp on dairy animal management and climate change was organized by PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur on 18-3-2026 at its campus in collaboration with Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

Dr. Ishank Kumar, Hon’ble Member Vidhan Sabha, Chabbewal constituency, Hoshiarpur graced the occasion as chief guest.

Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), PAU-KVK, Hoshiarpur extended a cordial welcome to the dignitaries, farmers & farmwomen and outlined the different activities of KVK Hoshiarpur for the welfare of the farming community. Dr. Bons also spoke on the need for adopting subsidiary occupations alongwith farming for complementing farm income. He sensitized the farmers and farmwomen regarding different social media tools being promoted by PAU, Ludhiana for agricultural knowledge up gradation. Dr. Bons also shared important tips regarding integrated pest management of summer and kharif crops.

In his presidential address, Dr. Ishank Kumar Chabbewal, Hon’ble Member Vidhan Sabha, Chabbewal constituency, Hoshiarpur underscored the commitment of the Government for upliftment of SC community and underlined different activities of the State Govt. regarding the same. Dr. Ishank informed that Govt. of Punjab is undertaking all important steps for agricultural development in the state especially availability of canal water & electricity and he also stressed on the need for farmers to follow the recommendations of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana for adopting resource conservation technologies in kharif crops. Dr. Ishank complimented the work being done by KVK Hoshiarpur and exhorted all to avail the various farmer welfare services and training facilities of KVK.

Dr. Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Principal Agronomist, Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology, PAU, Ludhiana briefed the farmers and farmwomen regarding the project being run by the department for the benefit of SC farming community and assured all help in their upliftment in future too. He also addressed the participants regarding direct seeding of rice and other water conservation practices. Dr. Harleen Kaur, Asstt. Professor (Agrometeorology), spoke about climate change and variability in weather conditions and their effect on agriculture.

Experts from PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur, Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) and Dr. Sukhdeep Kaur, Assistant Professor (Home Science) guided the farmers & farmwomen regarding dairy animal management, processing of agricultural produce, mechanical transplanting of paddy, cultivation practices for fruits & vegetables and nutritive diet.

Under the SCSP project, farmers and farmwomen were provided cattle feed and mineral mixture for demonstration purposes by the dignitaries.

The camp was attended by Sh. Parveen Kumar Soni, Sarpanch, village Jaijon Doaba Smt. Balbir Kaur, Panch, village Bahowal, Sh. Amarjit Singh, village Rasoolpur, Sh. Balbir Singh, village Bham, Sh. Ram Ji, village Bhuno, Sh. Malkit Singh, village Saidpur, Sh. Jaspal Singh, village Khanpur, Sh. Navninderjit Singh, Mahilpur, Sh. Malkit Chand, village Dihana, etc., among others.

In the end, Sh. Hardeep Singh, Sarpanch, village Bahowal thanked the chief guest, experts and the farmers and farmwomen for participating in this programme.
