Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Khadoor Sahib former MLA, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, on Friday termed Union Home Minister Amit Shahโs recent rally in Moga as โpolitical dramaโ and โelection tourism.โ He alleged that the Centre has remained a silent spectator on Punjabโs pressing issues while making lofty claims about development and corruption-free governance.
In a statement issued here, Brahmpura challenged the Union government's rhetoric. He stated that if the Home Minister is publicly acknowledging a massive โน18 crore Panchayat development fund scam in Khadoor Sahib, the Centre should immediately mandate a probe by central agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Alleging that rural development funds were blatantly misused under the patronage of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, Brahmpura said that instead of delivering political speeches, the Centre must ensure an impartial investigation to bring the real culprits to justice.
Raising grave concerns over law and order and national security, the SAD leader pointed to the recent killings in the border village of Adhian in Gurdaspur district. The incident saw a Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Home Guard personnel killed inside a police post, while an unarmed Sikh youth was murdered in an adjacent field. Terming it a severe security lapse and a failure of border management, Brahmpura questioned the Union Home Ministry's silence, noting that he had already submitted a formal petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a high-level central investigation into the matter.
Brahmpura also heavily criticised what he described as the BJP governmentโs โdouble standardsโ concerning Sikh issues. He questioned the continuous incarceration of Sikh political prisoners, widely referred to as โBandi Singhs,โ who remain in prison despite having completed their sentences. In stark contrast, he pointed out, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has repeatedly been granted parole despite his convictions in serious criminal cases. Such actions, Brahmpura noted, have deeply alienated the Sikh community and exposed an "anti-Panthic" bias.
Lashing out at the traditional national and ruling parties, the MLA asserted that the AAP, Congress, and the BJP have all failed to safeguard Punjabโs interests. He accused these "Delhi-centric" parties of exploiting the stateโs resources and weakening its governance framework, arguing that only regional parties rooted in Punjab's soil are equipped to protect its future.
Brahmpura concluded by reaffirming that the Shiromani Akali Dal will continue its uncompromising fight for Punjabโs development, border security, and the protection of its Panthic and federal rights.
