NO SHORTAGE OF DOMESTIC LPG IN STATE

Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy assured citizens that there is no shortage of domestic LPG in the state, despite concerns triggered by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

He urged people not to panic-book cylinders based on social media rumours, stating that supplies remain stable with regular arrivals.

The minister chaired a high-level review meeting through video conference from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat to assess the LPG supply situation.

Senior officials including Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Civil Supplies officials, district Collectors, police officers, and representatives of oil companies participated in the meeting.

Officials informed that Telangana currently maintains 10,611 metric tonnes of LPG stock, equivalent to around 6.97 lakh cylinders, while the daily requirement is about 2.5 lakh cylinders, of which 86% is for household use and the rest for commercial purposes.

Authorities confirmed that no bottling plant in the state has faced supply disruptions and over 90% of domestic demand is being met consistently.

To prevent misuse and hoarding of subsidised LPG cylinders, the government has fixed a minimum booking interval of 25 days for urban consumers and 45 days for rural consumers, aligning with national guidelines.

Officials explained that this gap reflects typical household consumption patterns and helps curb diversion of domestic cylinders to commercial use.

The government has also set up state-level and district-level coordination committees to closely monitor LPG supply and distribution.

The state committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, will oversee stock and logistics, while district committees led by Collectors will review supply on a daily basis and address local issues.

Authorities emphasised that there will be zero shortage for essential institutions such as hospitals, schools, orphanages, old age homes, and welfare hostels.

Deliveries are also being verified through an OTP-based system, ensuring cylinders reach the actual booked customers and preventing misuse.
