Indore civic body's move to rename Chhota Nehru stadium draws Congress ire

INDORE: (Mar 13) The Indore civic body's decision to rename Chhota Nehru Stadium as Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium has sparked a row, with the Congress accusing the ruling BJP of attempting to diminish the legacy of India’s first Prime Minister.

According to officials, a mayor-in-council meeting held on Thursday, chaired by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, decided to rename the stadium.

Speaking to PTI, Leader of the Opposition in the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), Chintu Chouksey, said, "The decision to rename the Chhota Nehru Stadium is unfortunate. People of the city had christened the stadium in honour of Jawaharlal Nehru. The BJP is insulting the legacy of the leader, who fought the British to liberate the country."
