Telangana CM has issued a mandatory directive for all government departments to procure only Electric Vehicles (EVs)

HYDERABAD (12.03.2026)

In a decisive move toward environmental sustainability,Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has issued a mandatory directive for all government departments to procure only Electric Vehicles (EVs) moving forward. The Chief Minister emphasized that this shift is a critical step toward establishing a pollution-free transport ecosystem across the state.

This mandate extends to the Core Urban Region (CURE), where all government departments are now required to ensure that even rented vehicles are electric. Complementing this green initiative, the Chief Minister ordered the Transport Department to phase out all manual processes and transition to a fully digitized, online operational framework to enhance transparency and efficiency.

During a comprehensive review meeting with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and senior officials, the Chief Minister addressed infrastructural gaps, stating that RTO offices should no longer operate from rented premises. He instructed officials to immediately prepare architectural plans and proposals for the construction of dedicated, government-owned buildings for all RTO offices.

Prioritizing public safety, the Chief Minister suggested the use of short films and awareness campaigns to educate the public on road safety and accident prevention. Additionally, he announced the allocation of land for a state-of-the-art, modern bus terminal near Shamshabad, integrated with the upcoming High-Speed Rail Corridor, and directed officials to finalize the necessary blueprints for this multimodal hub.
