Lightning strikes killed 434 people in Chhattisgarh in 2 years: Govt tells assembly

RAIPUR: (Mar 10) As many as 434 people have died due to lightning strikes in Chhattisgarh in the last two years, and relief assistance of Rs 17.28 crore has been provided to the families of the victims, Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma informed the state assembly on Tuesday.

In a written reply to a question raised by BJP MLA Asharam Netam, Verma said the highest number of deaths was reported from Balrampur district in the northern region of the state, where 51 people died due to lightning strikes.

Netam, in his written question, sought details regarding deaths caused by lightning strikes and the relief amount distributed to the victims' families during 2024-25 and 2025-26.
