📢 HEALTH AWARENESS BULLETIN: Do You Know the Real Truth About Bacteria and Viruses?
HYDERABAD | Report by: Syed Mukaram Uddin (News Reporter)
In our journey toward a healthier society, understanding the microscopic world is the first step. Many people confuse Bacteria and Viruses, treating them as the same, but in the world of medical science, they are fundamentally different.
🔍 The Core Difference: Living Cells vs. Micro Particles
While Bacteria are fully functional living cells, Viruses are not actually cells—they are microscopic biological particles. A virus cannot be considered "alive" until it comes into contact with a living host.
🔬 Size and Structure Comparison
* Size: Bacteria are roughly 10 to 100 times larger than viruses. Bacteria measure about 1–5 micrometers, whereas viruses are a tiny 20–300 nanometers.
* Build: Bacteria possess their own cell walls, cytoplasm, and ribosomes, allowing them to generate their own energy. In contrast, a virus consists only of DNA or RNA encased in a protein coat (Capsid).
⚙️ Reproduction and Infection
* Bacteria: These multiply independently by dividing into two (Binary Fission).
* Virus: They cannot reproduce on their own ❌. They must hijack a "Host Cell" (like a human or animal body), turning our own cells into a factory to produce copies of the virus.
💊 Caution in Treatment is Vital
The biggest misconception lies in how we treat these infections:
* Bacterial Infections: Antibiotics are effective here ✅.
* Viral Infections: Antibiotics are completely useless ❌. These require Vaccines or Antiviral medications.
> Reporter’s Advice: Never take antibiotics without a doctor's prescription. Using them for viral infections won't help you and can actually harm your body's natural defenses.
