*AAP Govt Urged to Fulfill Promises to Lawyers
*Budget should allocate funds for allowances, insurance, and chambers
Hoshiarpur/Daljit Ajnoha
'Former President of the District Bar Association Hoshiarpur, Advocate Ranjit Kumar, issued a press statement demanding that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, under the patronage of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, honour its promises to lawyers. He reminded that in December 2021, during election campaigning, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had addressed a gathering of lawyers in Amritsar and promised that if AAP formed the government, it would introduce a scheme providing young new lawyers with stipends, health and life insurance, and chambers. This promise was widely publicized by AAP on December 25, 2021, across social media, print, and electronic media. It is regrettable, he said, that four years after the government came to power, these commitments remain unfulfilled. Young lawyers, especially women lawyers, face significant hardships without any financial or social security.Advocate Kumar demanded that the Punjab government, at the very least, allocate funds in its final budget for stipends, health and life insurance for young lawyers, and construction of chambers. He also called for proper social security arrangements for clerks who work with lawyers and play a crucial role in the court's daily functioning.
