Farooq Abdullah Voices Concern Over Escalating Violence in West Asia

Srinagar, March 2: National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah has expressed deep concern over the rapidly escalating violence in West Asia, warning that continued conflict could have serious humanitarian and economic consequences for the region and beyond.
In a statement issued here, Dr. Abdullah described the recent developments — including joint strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran and the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei — as tragic and destabilising.
He said the growing tensions threaten peace, stability and the security of millions of people across West Asia and the wider world. Emphasising the need for restraint, Dr. Abdullah noted that violence only deepens mistrust and suffering, particularly impacting vulnerable populations in the Global South.
Calling for an immediate return to dialogue and diplomacy, he urged the international community, especially peace-loving nations and members of the United Nations, to work collectively to de-escalate tensions and uphold international law, justice and human dignity.
Dr. Abdullah stressed that sustainable peace in West Asia can only be achieved through respectful negotiations, mutual understanding and the protection of civilian lives. He appealed to governments worldwide to support an inclusive peace process that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations and addresses the legitimate concerns of people across the Middle East.
Reiterating his commitment to global peace, the veteran leader urged all stakeholders to reject actions that fuel division and instability in the region.
