The Hon’ble District In charge Minister Adilabad District Government of Telangana HYDERABAD.

Respected Sir,
Sub: Request for sanction of ₹171.00 Crores for strengthening and augmentation of
Drinking Water Supply Sources in Adilabad Municipality -- Request-Reg.
I respectfully submit that Adilabad Municipality is facing acute and recurring drinking water scarcity despite substantial investments made under AMRUT 1.0 and AMRUT 2.0.
The present population of Adilabad town is approximately 2,40,000. In 2018, the Municipality was expanded from 36 wards to 49 wards by merging surrounding Gram Panchayats, significantly increasing the geographical jurisdiction and water demand.
Under AMRUT 1.0, Elevated Level Service Reservoirs (ELSRs) were constructed and new pipelines were laid in the old town areas. Under AMRUT 2.0, construction of ELSRs and laying of pipeline networks in the merged areas are under progress. While the distribution infrastructure has been strengthened, the availability of adequate water source remains the critical issue.
The projected water demand for the year 2026 is 32.00 MLD. Though the same quantity was agreed and signed to be supplied by the Mission Bhagiratha GRID at the time of commissioning; only 18.00 MLD is being supplied from commissioning till date, resulting in a shortfall of 14.00 MLD. Even the present year demand is not being met. Though the GRID system is designed up to the year 2048, the projected requirement of Adilabad Municipality by 2048 will be about 53.00 MLD. However, the agreed quantity is not being supplied, and the deficit is increasing year after year.
At present, the Municipality is drawing about 6.50 MLD from its own local sources, which are seasonal and become dry during summer, leading to severe hardship to the public for the past decade, to address the existing shortfall and future demand, this Municipality has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) proposing augmentation of water supply sources by tapping nearby reliable sources totaling 35.00 MLD as detailed below:
1. Chanaka-Korta Barrage – 12 MLD
2. Mathadivagu Project – 10 MLD
3. Sathnala Project – 10 MLD
4. Mavala lake – 3 MLD

Under the proposed project, the following major components are planned:
• Construction of a 35 MLD Water Treatment Plant.
• Establishment of Raw Water Pumping Stations at the above three major sources.
• Laying of Raw Water Rising Mains from the respective sources to the Water Treatment Plant.
• Construction of Clear Water Sump at the Treatment Plant site.
• Installation of Clear Water Pumping Machinery.
• Laying of Clear Water Pumping Mains from the Treatment Plant to Master Balancing Reservoirs (MBRs).
• Integration with the existing distribution network.
The estimated project cost for the above comprehensive source improvement and augmentation scheme is ₹171.00 Crores.
In view of the severe drinking water crisis and recurring summer distress, I humbly request the Hon’ble District In charge Minister to:
1. Kindly accord administrative sanction of ₹171.00 Crores for implementation of the proposed scheme.
2. Issue necessary directions to the Irrigation & Command Area Development Department to allocate and earmark the required quantity of drinking water from the above-mentioned sources to Adilabad Municipality on priority basis.
3. Direct the concerned departments to provide necessary technical and administrative approvals for early execution of the works.
This project will provide sustainable and long-term drinking water security to the growing population of Adilabad Town and permanently resolve the recurring summer water crisis for the coming decades
I sincerely request your kind and immediate consideration of this matter in the larger public interest.
Thanking you, Sir.
Yours faithfully,

Bandari Anusha
(Municipal Chairperson)
Adilabad Municipality.
