130 held for harassing women in Malkajgiri, Hyderabad, Telangana; She Teams intensify decoy operations

Women Safety DCP T. Usha Rani said there is zero tolerance towards crimes against women and urged victims to come forward without fear.

As many as 130 individuals, including 102 adults and 28 minors, were held by the She Teams of the Malkajgiri police between February 1 and 15 for harassing women and girls in public places and through digital platforms.

Police said 148 complaints were received during the period. Of these, 41 related to harassment through phone calls, 33 through social media applications and 74 involved direct or physical harassment. Six criminal cases were registered, 30 petty cases were booked and 99 persons were counselled in the presence of their family members at the CP Camp Office, LB Nagar, with the assistance of professional counsellors.

Women Safety DCP T. Usha Rani said there is zero tolerance towards crimes against women and urged victims to come forward without fear. She said She Teams were conducting decoy operations in plain clothes at bus stands, railway and metro stations, educational institutions, markets and other public places to catch offenders red-handed and secure evidence before producing them in court.

Apart from enforcement, She Teams conducted 58 awareness programmes during the fortnight, reaching about 9,205 people on women-related laws, rights and safety measures. During metro rail decoy operations, four men found travelling in women-only compartments were fined through metro authorities.

Women facing harassment have been advised to contact SHE Teams through the Malkajgiri WhatsApp number 8712662111 or the respective area team numbers. Police assured that complaints would be handled confidentially and strict action taken against offenders.
