The Sanctum Sanctorum Of The Konark Sun Temple To Open After 122 Years. Konark, Odisha, February 19, AIMA Media News : Devotees will soon be able to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the 13th century Konark Sun Temple in Odisha. At present, the area is filled with sand. It is now being removed. The British rulers filled the sanctum sanctorum with thousands of tonnes of sand in 1903-04 to prevent the 15-foot-high wall behind the temple from collapsing. No one has entered this area, known as Jagmohan Hall, for a century. Recently, a team of experts from the Archaeological Survey of India and IIT Madras has taken up the task of removing this sand. An archaeological department official said that it will take three months to remove all the sand. After removing the sand, a decision will be taken on the reconstruction of the temple after examining the strength of the inner walls. --- M Venkata T Reddy, News Editor And Investigative Journalist.
