Red Fort Explosion: NIA Gets 45 More Days to Complete Investigation
New Delhi, Feb 13: A Delhi court on Friday granted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) an additional 45 days to complete its probe into the November 10, 2025 blast near the Red Fort in the national capital.
The order was passed by Principal District and Sessions Judge Pitamber Dutt of Patiala House Courts after the NIA sought more time to investigate the financial and digital links of the accused. The agency had requested an extension beyond the statutory 90-day period under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The court also extended the judicial custody of seven accused till March 13. The accused include Amir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, Dr Muzamil Shakeel Ganie, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed and Soyab. Soyab was produced physically before the court, while the others attended the hearing via video conferencing.
According to investigators, Dr Umar-un-Nabi was allegedly driving an explosives-laden Hyundai i20 car that exploded outside the historic Red Fort, killing 15 people and injuring several others.
Earlier reports indicated that a suspected terror module, allegedly led by a group of doctors, had been scouting for a suicide bomber since last year, with Umar said to be the key planner.
The NIA said further investigation is underway to uncover the larger conspiracy and network behind the attack.
