Protest Convention in Kalaburagi on March 14 Against Closure of Government Schools

Kalaburagi: A protest convention has been called on March 14, 2026, at Dr. N.M. Hiremath Rangamandir in Kalaburagi opposing the State Government’s reported move to close or merge government schools across Karnataka. The event is being organized by AIDSO Karnataka.

According to the organizers, the government is planning to shut down thousands of government schools, particularly those with low student enrollment. Reports indicate that more than 40,000 schools across the state could be affected. The decision is expected to severely impact students from rural, poor, and marginalized communities.

The districts of Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, and Vijayanagara are likely to see significant effects if the proposal is implemented. Concern has been raised that students may be forced to travel long distances to attend school, increasing dropout rates and placing additional financial burdens on families.

AIDSO has argued that instead of closing schools, the government should strengthen public education by improving infrastructure, appointing adequate teachers, and providing necessary facilities. The organization emphasized that education is a fundamental right and that weakening government schools would harm socially and economically disadvantaged sections.

Students, parents, teachers, and the general public have been urged to participate in large numbers to make the protest convention successful.
