Doordarshan's Veteran Anchor Sarala Maheshwari Passes Away,

New Delhi, February 13, AIMA Media News: Veteran news anchor Sarala Maheshwari (71) passed away in New Delhi on Thursday. She was one of the leading news readers of Doordarshan in the 1970s and 80s. She joined Doordarshan in 1976 while pursuing her PhD.

She was one of the first few news readers in the history of Indian television to read live news. She worked as a BBC news reader in the UK from 1986-1988 and then rejoined Doordarshan. Doordarshan paid tribute to her death. It praised her for her 'soft voice and precise pronunciation'.
