Will accept results if elections are free and fair: BNP, Jamaat chiefs

DHAKA: (Feb 12) Leaders of top Bangladesh contending parties on Thursday said that they will accept the results of the elections if they are held in a “free, fair, impartial manner.”

The election is seen as a direct contest between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its once ally, Jamaat-e-Islami, in the absence of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina's now-disbanded Awami League.

BNP chairman Tarique Rahman, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman, as well as interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, cast their ballots early in the crucial 13th parliamentary elections.
