Capital Region Ring Road Project in Odisha to Begin Soon: NHAI

Bhubaneswar: Work on the Capital Region Ring Road project in Odisha is set to begin soon after receiving all mandatory approvals, including environmental clearance, officials of the National Highways Authority of India said. The 111-km access-controlled corridor is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the Twin City region of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, while also benefiting commuters in Khordha district.

The greenfield project will originate from Rameswar in Khordha and extend up to Bilipada, diverting through-traffic from congested urban stretches and reducing pressure on NH-16. NHAI CGM Veerendra Singh said the project will be executed in three phases at an estimated cost of ₹8,300 crore, with completion targeted in two-and-a-half years.

The bidding process has concluded, with around 15 bids received per package, and work is likely to be awarded within six weeks. The corridor will feature eight access points, 125 underpasses, 300 culverts, and a dedicated wildlife passage to facilitate elephant movement.
