Auto-Rickshaw Driver’s Daughter, Adeeba Ashfaq, Becomes Maharashtra’s First Muslim Woman IAS Officer
Mumbai: In the recent results of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Adeeba Anjum Ashfaq Ahmed from the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra secured the 142nd rank. This achievement is particularly significant as it comes at a time when resources and educational facilities in Yavatmal are limited. However, through her hard work, determination, and the support of her parents, Adeeba has reached her goal.
A Humble Background
Adeeba’s father, Ashfaq Ahmed, is an auto-driver and they do not even own their own home. Her success is historic, as she is set to become the first Muslim woman from the state to serve as an IAS officer. Her triumph is being seen as a message of encouragement for girls' education in the region.
Educational Journey
Early Schooling: She completed her primary education (Classes 1 to 7) at a local Urdu Primary School in Yavatmal.
Secondary Education: She attended the Zilla Parishad Ex-Government Girls High School from Classes 8 to 10.
Higher Secondary: She completed Classes 11 and 12 at the Zilla Parishad Ex-Government College.
Graduation: To further her studies, she moved to Pune, where she earned her degree in Mathematics from the Abeda Inamdar Senior College.
The Path to UPSC
Adeeba shared that her initial dream was to become a doctor, but due to a lack of resources and facilities in Yavatmal, she couldn't pursue it. During this time, a social worker from Yavatmal, Nizamuddin Shaikh, encouraged her and explained how she could serve her community and the country by becoming an IAS officer.
She then began her preparation at the Chanakya Mandal Pariwar and the UPSC Academy in Pune. Success did not come easily—she faced failure in her first three attempts. However, she did not lose heart and continued to work hard. Finally, in her fourth attempt, she secured the 142nd rank and brought pride to her family and state.
