Dr. Rajiv Kumar Mahato Brings Pride to Northeast India with National Honour
Dr. Rajiv Kumar Mahato, a distinguished personality from Northeast India, has once again gained national recognition for his dedicated work in literature, culture, and social service over the past nearly 35 years. Born into a tea garden community family in Dibrugarh district of Assam, Dr. Mahato has enriched Assamese literature and culture through his sincere and continuous efforts.
Along with his literary contributions, Dr. Mahato has been actively involved in social service. Using his own earnings, he has helped many poor and needy families, spreading hope and happiness in society. His social work is not limited to Assam alone; he has also carried out welfare activities in other states such as Odisha and West Bengal, where he has received appreciation and honours for his efforts.
Dr. Mahato is also serving as the President of the Assam State Committee of the Northeast Journalists and Digital Media Association. Through this role, he has made valuable contributions to the field of journalism while continuing to uphold humanitarian values and social responsibility.
Being the son of a tea garden worker community—an inseparable part of Assamese society—Dr. Mahato has remained deeply connected to Assamese language and literature. For his remarkable contributions to literature, culture, and media, he has been honoured by many social and cultural organizations.
To fight against blind beliefs in society, especially the practice of witch-hunting, Dr. Mahato led awareness campaigns by presenting a musical and literary performance titled “Mangri Is Not a Witch” in tea gardens across the state. This unique initiative gained wide public attention and played an important role in creating social awareness.
In recognition of all these contributions, a Delhi-based organization, Tretayuc Foundation, honoured Dr. Rajiv Kumar Mahato with the National Pride and Excellence Award 2024. Presented on the occasion of Republic Day, this national-level award has brought pride not only to Dr. Mahato but also to the tea garden community and the entire Northeast region.
Despite facing challenges and criticism, Dr. Mahato has continued his journey with dedication and hard work. Believing in the principle that “work is worship,” he has received several awards from different parts of the country. The President of the Central Committee of the Northeast Journalists and Digital Media Association, Rasnamani Gogoi, and General Secretary Tarun Gogoi expressed their best wishes for Dr. Mahato’s continued success and hoped that he would bring greater pride to society and the nation in the future.
