DSP Garhshankar Daljit Singh Khakh led a team to remove illegal encroachments by shopkeepers on Mahilpur-Jaijon Road in Mahilpur town, Hoshiarpur district. The operation cleared goods placed outside shops on public land, while issuing challans to about 35 vehicles parked in no-parking zones. Shopkeepers received strict warnings of future legal action.The drive addressed recurring accidents caused by these encroachments, including a recent incident where a young girl's legs were injured in a crash. DSP Khakh emphasized that shopkeepers must keep goods within their premises or face stringent enforcement. He added that police are deploying staff for traffic control in Mahilpur and nearby areas like Kot Fatuhi and Garhshankar, with solutions promised soon.Local leaders praised the action. Shopkeeper and senior figure Pandit Narinder Mohan Nindi commended the Deputy Commissioner's scheduling of tippers on the road, which will ease congestion alongside the police crackdown. Senior leader Sanjeev Kumar Pachnangal highlighted frequent jams in Kot Fatuhi due to shoppers parking in traffic lanes. Former Cabinet Minister Sohan Singh Thandal urged public cooperation, noting that even one wrongly parked vehicle can disrupt flow in crowded markets.Residents called for collective efforts, like yielding space to cycles and small vehicles, and urged vendors to use designated spots for carts and stalls to resolve traffic woes.
