A full-dress rehearsal for the district-level celebrations of the 77th Republic Day, observed across the country, was held today at the local Police Lines Ground. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, the chief guest, hoisted the national flag.Following the flag-hoisting, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the various contingents in the parade. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Nikas Kumar and Parade Commander Dheerendra Verma accompanied her. She took the salute from contingents including PRTC Jahan Khelan, PRTC Jahan Khelan Women's Wing, District Police, District Police Women's Wing, Punjab Home Guards, Paisco (ex-servicemen), NCC Cadets of 12 Punjab Battalion Hoshiarpur, Scouts boys from School of Eminence Khwas Puraheera, Police Cadets from Government Senior Secondary School Bhunga, Girls Guide from Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Railway Mandi, and bands from PPA Phillaur and PRTC Jahan Khelan.Informing about the district-level function on January 26, the Deputy Commissioner said all preparations have been finalized by the district administration. She stated that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will hoist the national flag. Tableaux showcasing Punjab government welfare schemes, achievements and initiatives in various fields will also feature in the event, she added. The Chief Minister will honour freedom fighters, their family members, brave women, and individuals for exemplary work in different sectors. Needy persons will be distributed motor tricycles and sewing machines. She directed officers of concerned departments to celebrate Republic Day with full enthusiasm and discharge their duties diligently.During the rehearsal, students from various schools presented a mass PT show and captivating patriotic performances. PAP Jalandhar's horsemen thrilled the audience with tent pegging. Girl students performed the Punjabi folk dance Giddha, while boys presented Bhangra. Students of Marigold Public School concluded the event by singing the national anthem.Among those present were SP Navneet Kaur, SDM Mukerian Oaishe Mandal, Municipal Commissioner Jyoti Bala Mattu, SDM Hoshiarpur Gursimeranjeet Kaur, Assistant Commissioner Parmpreet Singh, and officers from various departments.
