Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Ashika Jain's order fixing the movement of tippers and trucks carrying mining material on the Nangal-Garhshankar Road and Jaijon-Mahilpur Road between 7 pm and 7 am, along with directives for them to drive properly, is a commendable step that we welcome. This will help prevent accidents in the future. These remarks were made by Ajaiab Singh Boparai, General Secretary (Incharge) of the All India Jatt Mahasabha, Punjab, in a press statement. He stated that the DC's orders are valid until March 20 and urged her to make them permanent for these roads to save precious lives in the times ahead. Over 18 people have lost their lives in accidents caused by these mining tippers so far, including a recent incident in Mahilpur where a girl's legs were severely crushed under a tipper.Boparai emphasized that the administration must strictly enforce the DC's orders, as some tippers were still seen carrying mining material on the Garhshankar-Nangal Road during daytime. He appealed to the DC to ban tipper movement entirely in the Beant area—from Adda Jhungian to Haibowal Road—where villages are situated on all sides. In many places, there's barely space for tippers to pass, forcing other vehicles and two-wheelers to stop and wait. With houses right along the road, children often spill onto it, posing a grave risk. The same situation prevails in Binwal village, so tipper movement through these villages should be stopped altogether.
