Tragedy in Karbi Anglong: Three Dead in Ring Well Accident

​DISAMA, Jan 21, 2026 – A somber atmosphere has gripped Disama village in the Karbi Anglong district following the deaths of three workers inside a ring well on Tuesday afternoon, January 20.
​The Incident
​The three victims, identified as Tissong Terang (20), Hari Teron (35), and Longsodar Terang (25), were experienced well-diggers. According to reports, the men were working at a depth of approximately 35–40 feet when they likely encountered a pocket of toxic gas or suffered a sudden lack of oxygen, causing them to lose consciousness.
​Rescue Operations
​The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Diphu Fire & Emergency Services were alerted to the scene. Despite a challenging retrieval operation due to the depth and remote location, the bodies were eventually recovered and transported to Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMCH&H) for post-mortem examinations.
​Official Statement
​Shri Bidya Sing Bey, Senior Station Officer of the Diphu Fire Bridge, briefed the media, confirming the suspected cause of death as suffocation. Local authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
