On January 23, Uttar Pradesh will conduct a statewide blackout mock drill across all 75 districts at 6:00 PM. The exercise is being organised by the Civil Defence Department on the occasion of Uttar Pradesh Day and the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Authorities have clarified that the drill is a preparedness exercise and not a real emergency situation. During the drill, sirens will be sounded for two minutes in both high and low tones to simulate an air-raid warning. Power supply will be temporarily switched off in identified areas, and citizens will be guided to move to designated safe locations. Multiple agencies, including the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), State Disaster State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire services, health department and power authorities, will work in coordination during the exercise. After the mock warning phase, another siren will signal the end of the simulated threat. Civil Defence volunteers will then demonstrate response measures such as fire control using extinguishers, rescue of people trapped in damaged structures, providing first aid to the injured, and transporting casualties to hospitals through ambulances. Officials have urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate, stating that the objective of the drill is to strengthen disaster response readiness and public awareness, not to create panic.
