
District Level Training Camp on PESA Act and Tribal Development observed in Koraput District.
Report by Nishapati Nayak : District level training workshop on PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas Act, 1996) Act and overall development of tribals was organized by the Koraput District Administration today at Sadbhabana Conference Hall.
Deputy Director of State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Institute (SIRD & PR), District Magistrate Koraput, and Chief Development Officer and Executive Officer (CDO-cum-EO) of the District Council attended the event as the chief guests of honour. District level officers of the concerned departments were also present and imparted training.
Key details of the program are as follows ie, Participation: 240 Gram Sabha Mobilizers (GSM) and 14 Block PESA Coordinators from different parts of the district participated in this training.
Topic of Discussion: Power of Gram Sabha in Scheduled Areas, Forest Land Rights, Natural Resources Management and Social and Economic Empowerment of Tribals through PESA Act were discussed in detail.
Facilitation: The PESA Nodal Officer and Project Manager (SD) of the District Council facilitated the entire program.
Mr.Manoj Satyawan Mahajan(IAS) District Collector & Magistrate of Koraput in his speech said that with the successful implementation of PESA Act, the tribal community at the grassroots level will be able to take decisions for their governance and development. Deputy Director of SIRD apprised the Gram Sabha Mobilizers about their responsibilities and duties.
It is expected that this training camp will further activate the professional regulations in the district and help in reaching out to the common people with government schemes.
