Strict Action Against Agencies Delaying Mega Drinking Water Projects in Koraput

Koraput, Jan 17 - In a major development concerning rural drinking water infrastructure, the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Department has warned of strict action against agencies responsible for delays in the completion of eight mega drinking water projects in Koraput district. The projects, with a combined estimated cost of ₹1,333 crore, are currently under various stages of implementation and are aimed at ensuring safe and sustainable drinking water supply to thousands of households across the district.

The projects are being executed in Narayanpatna (₹84 crore), Boipariguda (₹155 crore), Borigumma (₹316 crore), Dasmantpur (₹190 crore), Nandapur (₹178 crore), Jeypore and Kundura combined (₹244 crore), Koraput block (₹101 crore), and Lamtaput (₹98 crore). Apart from construction, the executing agencies will also be responsible for operation and maintenance of the projects for a period of five years.

RWSS Department Executive Engineer Jagabandhu Choudhury said that the state government is closely monitoring the progress of these high-value projects. “These mega drinking water projects are crucial for addressing long-standing water scarcity issues in Koraput district. Any agency found delaying the work without valid reasons will face strict administrative and contractual action,” he stated.

Choudhury further added that clear timelines have been communicated to all executing agencies and regular field-level reviews are being conducted to ensure quality and timely completion. He emphasized that the department’s priority is to provide uninterrupted and safe drinking water to rural and urban habitations alike.

The announcement has raised expectations among residents of the district, who have long demanded reliable drinking water supply. The administration hopes that firm action and close supervision will accelerate the completion of these projects and deliver tangible benefits to the people of Koraput.
