
From Sarpanch to Successful Farmer Maheshwar Padhan
Former Sarpanch of Barguda village under Barpali block of Bargarh district, is considered a successful farmer. He was once a Sarpanch but is now a successful farmer. In this context, Maheshwar Padhan cultivates various types of vegetables in his seven-acre land in Retamunda village under Bhatigaon Gram Panchayat using integrated farming system. The land which was barren land has now become arable land. Especially with the help of various agricultural organizations, he cultivates eggplant, cabbage, jhudang, mustard, banana, china almond, radish, onion, coconut, nectarine, sweet potato, kandamull, bhendi. While the Horticulture Department cultivates palm, mango, lemon, seu, betel nut, sapeta and atam, the Animal Husbandry Department also cultivates cattle, ducks, and native chickens. He has also received various types of agricultural equipment such as power tiller, sprayer, pea pump, and seed cutter from the government through concessions. He has received Rs. 118,800 in three installments from the Horticulture Department and Rs. 3,600 for a shade house. He has been able to earn a little over two paisa by selling all these vegetables in the local market. Along with this, he has also been providing regular income to about five people. At a time when there is a problem in rice cultivation and sales, he has been able to earn a lot of money through this integrated farming system.
