Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Dec.27
An early cancer detection and eye check-up medical camp, organised by M/S World Cancer Care (a UK-based charitable society) and sponsored by M/S Vardhman Threads Limited, Ludhiana/Hoshiarpur, concluded successfully in Bhugarni village. In this emotional and challenging event, 507 patients from 19 villages underwent medical examinations from 10 am to 4 pm.

For the past six months, Dr A.S. Balgir, the chief organiser and coordinator, provided guidance at every step. He worked in close coordination with the World Cancer Care Jalandhar office and Vardhman Group officials, overcoming numerous obstacles to ensure the event's success. Awareness campaigns were conducted in at least 20 nearby villages using traditional dhol beats with banners, and repeated announcements at neighbouring gurdwaras.

The camp was inaugurated by Chabbewal Assembly segment MLA Dr Ishant Kumar as the chief guest. World Cancer Care representative Dr Dharminder Singh Dhillon urged people to get themselves checked in large numbers. Vardhman Group's Shri Pradeep Dadwal expressed satisfaction over the event's effective success while thanking World Cancer Care, the organisers, and all agencies.

In his welcome address, Dr A.S. Balgir described it as a rare opportunity for cancer patients, recalling the grace of Guru Har Rai Sahib's visit to Bhugarni in the 15th century and the supreme sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his beloved Sahibzadas on this day. Shri Dharm Singh Janjua thanked the Bhugarni panchayat members, villagers, and residents of neighbouring villages for their cooperation.

A unique feature of the camp was cancer survivors sharing their live experiences. PAU Ludhiana VC Dr S.S. Gosal, Dr Hardev Singh Parihar from the US, and several prominent figures from the region sent congratulatory messages. Some agencies also provided financial support.

Schoolchildren actively collected written feedback from all patients. Village woman sarpanch Smt Gurdip Kaur Janjua passed a vote of thanks, appreciating everyone's support, gracious presence, and the tireless efforts of those working behind the scenes.
