Priority for effective and speedy disposal through digital justice
Gadag (Karnataka News) Dec. 24: In case a consumer finds a discrepancy in the quality or quantity of the goods they purchased, they can file a case through the digital justice app and get a quick and effective solution, said District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Chairman A.J. Maldara, who inaugurated the event.
He spoke while inaugurating the National Consumer Day-2025 program on Wednesday at the Suvarna Mahotsav Bhavan on the premises of the V.R. Kushtagi Memorial College of Commerce, Gadag-Betageri, under the joint auspices of the Gadag District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Legal Metrology Department, District Legal Services Authority, Food Safety and Quality Authority, Information and Communication Department and V.R. Kushtagi Memorial College of Commerce, Gadag-Betageri.
Consumers should be careful while buying any product or getting any service. It is essential to check its quality, quantity, warranty, expiry date. If the consumer is wronged, they can contact the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and seek redress, he said.
Mrs. Yashoda Patil, a female member of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, gave the introductory speech and said that consumers can file disputes at the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission at the fastest speed, and submit evidence of the relevant dispute in the digital justice app. The basic objective of this is to provide justice at the fastest speed.
He said that it is to provide justice to the customers by examining and disposing of the disputes related to the customers and if the quality of the goods purchased by them is found to be poor according to the demand of the customers, then today through digital justice, every customer is provided with service to the customers by effectively and quickly disposing of various types of disputes through various means. He instructed that if the sellers want to sell a product, they should deal fairly with the customers by providing quality goods and services.
Speaking on the occasion, S.G. Palleda, Legal Advisor to the District Collector, said that National Consumer Day is celebrated every year on December 24 and World Consumer Day is celebrated on March 15. Consumer Day in India was implemented in 1986. According to the order of the Supreme Court, the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, which is functioning at the district, state and central levels for the redressal of consumer grievances, is functioning.
When a person buys something, that person is called a consumer. He said the purpose of celebrating National Consumer Day is to inform consumers about their right to information, right to choice, right to protection, etc. about the goods they buy.
Later, in his speech, he spoke about the prevention of exploitation, protection from black money, adulteration, high price charging and unfair trade practices. Justice, providing information about the commissions for redressal of consumer grievances at the district, state and central levels. Enforcement of Acts: SG Palleda spoke in detail about the application of laws such as the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
On this occasion, an exhibition of weights and measures and packaging materials was organized by the Department of Legal Metrology; a poster exhibition on food safety and food adulteration was organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority; and a demonstration and poster exhibition on LPG safety were organized by the District Gas Agency.
