
Meeting on controlling the menace of stray dogs
Take action to control stray dogs: Deputy Commissioner C.N. Sridhara
Gadag (Karnataka News) December 10: District Collector C.N. Sridhar said that appropriate steps should be taken to control the menace of stray dogs in the district.
He spoke while presiding over a meeting on the control of stray dogs at the city's district collector's office on Tuesday. He said that the concerned authorities should appoint nodal officers in the city's bus stand, Anganwadi center, hotels, and hostels and through them submit the details of the number of stray dogs to the heads of urban local bodies and panchayat development officers.
Steps should be taken to identify suitable places to set up sterilisation and treatment centres for stray dogs. Shelters for stray dogs should be established at every hobli level. The District Collector directed the heads of the respective institutions to submit a memorandum regarding the steps taken so far as per the orders of the Supreme Court.
In light of the reports of incidents of stray dogs posing a threat to children, women, and senior citizens in some places, C.N. Sridhara suggested that effective action be taken before the problem becomes serious.
Discussions were held on the formation of a special team to safely capture stray dogs, surgically treat them at a veterinary hospital, vaccinate them against rabies, conduct health checks, tag them, and release them.
The meeting discussed issuing strict instructions to collect waste from markets, hotels, meat shops, and public places in closed bins for proper garbage management across the district.
On this occasion, G.P. Deputy Secretary C.R. Mundaragi, D.Y.S.P. Mahantesh Sajjana, Urban Development Cell Project Director Basanagowda Kotura, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. S.S. Neelgund, District Surveyor Dr. Venkatesh Rathod, Backward Classes Welfare Department Officer Mehbooba Thumbaramatty, Women and Child Development Department Deputy Director Smt. Padmavati Ji, heads of city and local bodies, and officers and staff of various departments were present.
