Koraput Municipality Clears Illegal Roadside Encroachments Along National Highway

Koraput | Dec 10, 2025 - In a decisive action against illegal roadside encroachments, Koraput Municipality carried out a major eviction drive along the Koraput stretch of the National Highway, removing makeshift shops that had been operating without permission.

Several vendors had been encroaching upon the roadside for the past few days, causing obstruction to traffic movement and posing safety risks to commuters. Despite multiple notices served to the vendors, they continued to occupy the highway space and did not vacate the area.

A municipality official said, “We issued repeated warnings, but the vendors paid no heed. The encroachments were blocking the national highway and compromising public safety. Hence, we had to take strict action today.”

Around 1 pm, a team from Koraput Municipality arrived at the site with a JCB machine and demolished the illegally erected structures. The operation aimed to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and restore the original width of the national highway, which had been narrowed due to unauthorized stalls.

The eviction drive was conducted in the presence of the Koraput Tahsildar, the Koraput Town Police Officer, and a full team of municipal staff to maintain order and ensure the process was carried out without any disruption.

Municipal authorities stated that similar eviction drives will continue in other parts of the town to keep public spaces free from encroachment and to maintain road safety.
