On the occasion of Anti-Fascist Day (Dec. 06), the day of the demolition of the Babri Masjid, massive protests were held across the country including Tamil Nadu by the SDPI party with the slogan of protecting Waqf and the right to worship. As part of this, a massive protest was held in Old Washermanpet, Chennai, on behalf of the Chennai North Zone of the SDPI party, under the leadership of the STBI party's North Chennai East District President Bhutto Maideen.

In this protest, Chennai West District President Seyed Ahmed delivered the welcome address, and Central Chennai District President Muhammad Ismail delivered the vote of thanks. North Chennai West District President Seeni Mohammed hosted the program. North Chennai East District General Secretary Shahnawaz, Chennai West District General Secretary Muhaideen Ansari, Central Chennai District General Secretary Salim Jaffer and other district and constituency administrators were present.

SDPI State President Nellai Mubarak, VKC Deputy General Secretary and MLA S.S. Balaji, who participated in the protest as special invitees, delivered speeches emphasizing the demand. In addition, Maulavi Abdul Gani Bhakavi, SDTU Chennai Zone President Muzammil Pasha, and VIM State Executive Committee Member Samima also delivered speeches.

SDPI state president Nellai Mubarak said, “The demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992 was not just a building demolition; it was an act of terrorism that attacked the very soul of the Indian Constitution. It was not just a mosque that was demolished – secularism, protection of minorities, right to worship, rule of law and democracy were all razed to the ground. However, justice was not served for that injustice. Instead, a verdict was written against the law based on the conscience of the majority, ignoring the evidence. The judiciary of the world’s largest democracy has become a laughing stock internationally.

Taking advantage of this court order, the religious forces have today started the next phase of action by targeting centuries-old mosques like Gyanvapi, Mathura Shahi Eidgah and Delhi Jama Masjid. On the other hand, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill brought by the Union Government is an attempt to take away the traditional rights of the Muslim community, The law has been enacted to make it easier for the government to seize property and to erode the control of Muslims over it.

Conspiracies are being made to gradually erode and eliminate the constitutional guarantee of secularism. Minority protection is not just a legal clause – it is the foundation of Indian nationhood. If it is undermined, the very fabric of India will fall apart.

Therefore, for the justice of the law and peace and harmony to prevail, we must all come together and oppose any attempt to violate the law on places of worship, protect the rights of waqf, and restore secularism as the lifeblood of the constitution,” he stressed...

More than a thousand people, including women, participated in this mass demonstration and raised slogans to protect the rights of waqf and worship
