Karnataka Chief minister Siddaramaiah Fires Back at HD Kumaraswamy’s Push for Bhagavad Gita in Schools

Bengaluru, December 6: A new political flashpoint has emerged in Karnataka’s education debate! Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has urged the Centre to introduce the Bhagavad Gita into the national school curriculum, submitting a formal request to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

But Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly countered the proposal. Responding sharply, he remarked that Kumaraswamy has “turned Manuwadi” after aligning with the BJP. Siddaramaiah stressed that Karnataka’s priority is to strengthen constitutional awareness among students, not push religious texts into classrooms.

He highlighted that the preamble of the Indian Constitution is already part of the syllabus for both school and college students. “Every child must know their rights and duties,” the CM said, adding that lessons on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s lifelong fight for social justice are being emphasized to promote equality and democratic values.

The exchange has once again brought the spotlight on the direction of educational reforms in the state — and the ideological differences driving them.
