Three Arrested in Assam–Meghalaya Border Killing

Tensions along the Assam–Meghalaya border escalated after a violent clash in Lapangap village led to the death of an Assam resident. Police arrested three individuals from Meghalaya — Pyrchang Dkhar, Everyshine Tyngkan and Deibormi Bhoi Lamare — who are now lodged in Jowai district jail. The incident occurred during a dispute over paddy harvesting in the contested border area. The victim, identified as Orivel Timung from Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district, succumbed to injuries amid the confrontation, prompting authorities to impose curfew to prevent further unrest.
