AMU Vice Chancellor Attends 24th FAAA Convention and Golden Jubilee of Washington DC Alumni Association in USA

AMU Vice Chancellor Attends: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, attended the 24th Annual Convention of the Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations (FAAA) and the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Aligarh Alumni Association, Washington DC (AAADC), held at The Rockville Hotel, Maryland, USA. The convention, themed “Celebrating Aligarh Spirit, Legacy, Leadership, and the Power of Inclusivity”, brought together hundreds of AMU alumni, academicians, and community leaders from across North America.
In her keynote address as Chief Guest, Prof. Khatoon expressed pride in AMU’s growing national and global standing, announcing that the university now ranks among the top ten in India. She described this achievement as a testament to the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and its inclusive and pluralistic ethos.
Prof. Khatoon lauded the global Aligarh fraternity for upholding Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s vision and legacy, calling the alumni “the living embodiment of Sir Syed’s mission of enlightenment and unity through education.” She reaffirmed AMU’s resolve to foster an environment of mutual respect and diversity, saying, “We are creating an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and valued, irrespective of faith, caste, or region, that is the true spirit of Aligarh.” Her address drew a standing ovation from alumni representing associations from Houston, Chicago, New York, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, Toronto, and other North American cities.
The two-day event marked a historic milestone in the shared journey of AMU and its alumni, celebrating five decades of the Washington DC association’s contributions to education, philanthropy, and community service. Sessions at the convention focused on inter-association coordination, scholarship development, and strengthening academic collaboration with AMU. Panel discussions on “Universities in a Data-Driven World” and “Women – Everyday Leaders” featured distinguished speakers deliberating on innovation, inclusivity, and women’s leadership.
The convention was presided over by FAAA President Afzal Usmani and Secretary Naila Saeed, with active participation from eminent Aligarh alumni, including Dr.Nausha Asrar, Dr. Farah Usmani, Dr. Samina Salim, Dr. A. Abdullah, Dr. Fazal Khan, Khalid Hafeez, Qamar Khan, Rafat Husain, and Syed Perwaiz Jafri.
The Golden Jubilee Banquet honoured the founders and past presidents of AAADC, with Sir Syed Lifetime Achievement Awards conferred upon Dr. Frank Islam, Prof. Narender Goel, and Dr. Salman Akhtar for their exceptional contributions to education, philanthropy, and community leadership.
A cultural evening titled “Woh Shahr-e-TarabRoomano Ka” added a nostalgic charm to the celebrations, culminating with the rendition of the AMU Tarana, which filled the venue with pride and emotion.
