One of the budding social activists and staunch supporter of Indian National Congreas Mr. Vikrant Pawar has answered the most debated question i e. What did Congress do in 70 years? For those who ask this question, He has given the following answer to the best of his ability:-

1. Air_Transport - India ranks third in the world in air transport and by 2015, 95 airports were built and ready in India.

2. Agriculture- In 1950-51, India was producing 48 million tonnes of food grains and other things from agriculture. However, after independence, due to the Green Revolution and similar schemes, the production rate increased and in 2017, 241 million tonnes of production was obtained.

3. Roads - In 1950-51, there were 4 lakh km of roads available in the country, which reached 56,03,293 km in 2017. The United States has the largest road network in the world, followed by India. If we look at the density of roads per square kilometer, India is at the top of the world (0.66 km/sq km less) while China is far behind India (0.16 km/sq km).

4. Electricity Sector - The combined production of hydro, thermal and nuclear energy was 5.1 billion KWH in 1950-51, which reached 1303.5 billion KWH in 2017-18

5. Education - The literacy rate in India was 18.3% in 1950-51, which reached 73% in 2011. Adult literacy classes, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meal Schemes played a major role in this. In 1947, there were 17 universities and 636 colleges in India. In 1950, there were 2,10,000 primary schools. After independence, the number of schools increased to 10,30,996 by 2015, while there were 799 universities, 39,071 colleges and 11,923 stand alone institutes. This includes IITs, IIMs, medical colleges (28 in 1950 and 205 in 1998) and NITs.

6. Railways - In 2016, there were 9 lakh wagons, 59,000 coaches, 9 thousand locomotives in the country, while 10,400 passenger trains carried 2.30 crore people (the combined population of Australia and New Zealand) daily. After 1947, 11,004 km of new railway tracks came into existence in the country by 2012. India ranks fourth in the country with the largest railway network in the world after the US, Russia and China.

7. Ports- Till 2014, there were around 200 small and large ports in the country, out of which the maximum number of 53 ports were in Maharashtra. The only private port was in Gujarat. (Mundra Port is owned by the Adani Group and was in controversy due to illegal cutting of mangroves and filling of the creek)

8. Dams - In 1947, only 300 dams existed in the country, while by 2012, around 4000 dams existed, including Tehri, Bhakra-Nangal, Sardar Sarovar, Nagarjun Sagar, Hirakud and other dams.

This information is very detailed and limited to a few areas, but still important. If the progress in each area after 1947 is to be presented in detail in written form, a big book will be prepared and it will also take a lot of time. Let's hope that with this much information, at least some devotees will stop talking.
