Anveshika Bharat Physics Yatra-2025 Punjab Chapter at M.R.P.D Government College, Talwara
Talwara ( Hoshiarpur ), September 26 ( Arsh ) : Under the esteemed guidance of Principal Prof. Gurmit Singh, the Research Development and Innovation Cell (RDIC) of MRPD Government College proudly hosted the Punjab Chapter of the Anveshika Bharat Physics Yatra—a national initiative dedicated to promoting hands-on learning and igniting scientific curiosity among students. The Yatra aims to make physics more engaging, interactive, and accessible through live demonstrations, quizzes, and participatory activities, reflecting the college’s strong commitment to experiential learning and the promotion of science education.
The day commenced with the Mashaal March, a symbolic procession representing the “light of knowledge.” The Mashaal was received by the Principal and ceremoniously handed over to students, who carried it up to the main venue. Students, faculty, and staff of MRPD College, along with participants from S.D. Sarvhitkari School, joined the march with great enthusiasm. A total of 150 students from MRPD College, 12 students and one teacher (Ms. Jyoti Dogra) from Sarvhitkari School actively participated. The event formally began with a welcome ceremony, badge distribution, and the introduction of distinguished guests.
The college had the privilege of hosting Dr. Sonik Bhatia and Dr. Harleen Singh from KMV College, Jalandhar—representatives of the IAPT Anveshika Centre, Punjab, inspired by Padma Shri Prof. H. C. Verma. Dr. Bhatia, an accomplished Assistant Professor, specializes in materials science, nanomaterials, and solar energy applications, with 25 publications and international recognition as a researcher and speaker. Dr. Harleen Singh, an Assistant Professor of Physics with over a decade of teaching experience, is an expert in neutron-gamma discrimination, experimental physics, and e-content development. The leadership of Dr. Neetu Verma, Head of Physics at KMV College and Coordinator of the Anveshika Centre, Punjab, was also acknowledged for her contributions, despite her inability to attend due to prior commitments.
The programme was inaugurated with a badge distribution ceremony led by the Principal, RDIC Convenor, and guest dignitaries. A series of live physics demonstrations followed, covering mechanics, waves, optics, electricity, and modern physics. These low-cost, portable, and interactive experiments transformed abstract theories into tangible experiences, inspiring curiosity and critical thinking among the learners.
Two quiz sessions added further excitement :
The General Science and General Knowledge Quiz, conducted by Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Assistant Professor of Physics, MRPD College).
The LEPTON Experimental Physics Quiz, conducted by Dr. Harleen Singh, which tested problem-solving skills and experimental understanding.
Both quizzes were highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation from MRPD College and Sarvhitkari School students. MRPD College students secured first and third positions, while Sarvhitkari School students proudly earned the second prize.
Guest experts Dr. Bhatia and Dr. Singh further enriched the programme by sharing insights into scientific research, innovative teaching methods, and the real-world applications of physics. Their sessions motivated students to embrace inquiry-based learning and explore physics beyond textbooks.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates by Dr. Monisha Sharma, RDIC Convenor. Contributions from students who supported logistics, moderation, photography, and arrangements were also acknowledged. Stage management was ably handled by Prof. Sakshi, ensuring the programme ran smoothly.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Monisha Sharma emphasized the importance of curiosity, scientific temper, and lifelong learning. Principal Prof. Gurmit Singh, in his Vote of Thanks, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the guest dignitaries, faculty, staff, and students whose collective efforts ensured the grand success of the event. He also urged students to carry forward the spirit of inquiry and innovation in their daily lives.
The Anveshika Bharat Physics Yatra at MRPD Government College proved to be a resounding success, fulfilling its mission to spark curiosity, promote hands-on learning, and strengthen connections between students, faculty, and expert educators. The Mashaal of Science lit during this event will continue to inspire young minds well into the future.
