Koraput Farmers’ Welfare Forum Seeks Collector’s Intervention on Fertilizer Shortage and Black Marketing
Koraput | Sep 2, 2025 – A fertilizer shortage has gripped Koraput district, sparking concerns among farmers over black marketing and the circulation of spurious fertilizers.
Raising the issue, Farmers’ Welfare Forum President Narendra Pradhan met Koraput Collector Manoj Satyan Mahajan and submitted a petition urging immediate government action. The forum appealed for strict measures against hoarding and illegal sales, stressing the need to ensure timely supply of genuine fertilizers to cultivators.
Pradhan noted that with the agricultural season underway, the crisis has triggered panic among farmers. Many, he said, have been forced to purchase substandard or fake fertilizers, which not only threatens crop production but also puts farmers’ livelihoods at serious risk.
The delegation urged the administration to implement strong monitoring mechanisms, intensify inspections, and streamline distribution channels so that fertilizers reach genuine farmers without delay.
In response, the Collector assured the forum that the grievances of farmers would be given top priority.
He promised that necessary steps would be initiated at the earliest to curb black marketing and safeguard the interests of the farming community.
