Increasing Unlawful Operation of Pharmacy Shops Without Valid Licenses in valleys of Manipur State after COVID !

Press Note
It has come to the notice of the Meitei Pangal Registered Pharmacist Association of Manipur (MRPAM) that several pharmacy outlets are being operated across the state without obtaining valid retail licenses issued by the competent Drug Control Authority. In addition, there are increasing instances where retail pharmacy shops are being run under wholesale drug licenses, which is a clear violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

MRPAM also expresses serious concern over pharmacy counters being operated inside doctors’ clinics without proper registration and licensing, which poses significant risks to patient safety and undermines the legal framework that governs pharmacy practice in India.

Such unauthorized operations not only jeopardize public health but also violate the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules thereunder, which mandate that all pharmacy outlets must be licensed and supervised by qualified registered pharmacists.

In light of these violations, MRPAM will soon begin a statewide inspection and awareness drive to identify and report unlawful pharmacies to the appropriate authorities. This initiative aims to protect the health and rights of patients, uphold professional standards, and ensure legal compliance.

We urge all individuals and institutions involved in the sale and distribution of medicines to strictly adhere to the legal norms. MRPAM also requests the concerned government departments to take strict action against violators as per the law.
We call upon the State Drug Control Department and law enforcement agencies to take strict action against violators to uphold the integrity of the pharmacy profession and ensure safe healthcare for the people of manipur.
