Delhi Bar Associations Threaten Stir, Seek Rollback of LG’s Order in 48 Hours
New Delhi: The coordination committee of all district bar associations in Delhi has strongly objected to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena’s recent notification permitting police personnel to give evidence through video conferencing directly from police stations.
In an urgent meeting held on Tuesday, representatives of all district bar associations unanimously passed a resolution demanding immediate withdrawal of the order. The committee, in a statement issued by its additional secretary general Tarun Rana, said the decision undermines the judicial process and is against the interest of justice.
The committee further warned that if the government fails to revoke the notification within 48 hours, lawyers across the city will launch protests, which may include street demonstrations.
Calling the move “detrimental to the rights of litigants and lawyers,” the bar leaders said such a system would cripple trial proceedings and delay the delivery of justice. They also announced that a formal representation will be submitted to the concerned authorities seeking rollback of the notification.
