Snake Man Chimanlal in the news in Paikmal
Usually, poisonous snakes come out in the environment during the rainy season. Often, poisonous snakes enter the house and bite people who are not careful. While snakes are useful for the environment, if we do not kill them and drive them away, it is equally important that we rescue them by calling the Snake Helpline and release them into their environment. Chimanlal Katapaliya is known as the Snake Man in Paikmal . He is about 25 years old. He is the only son of Bedavaar Katapaliya of Dunguripali village of Mithapali panchayat. Chimanlal works as a daily wage laborer and mason by profession. During the rainy season, he started rescuing poisonous snakes that were pets in the house. Later, he went to Bhubaneswar to get training at the Snake Helpline and is now working as a certified snake rescuer by the Forest Department. Whenever poisonous snakes enter a house in the Paikamal area, Chimanlal is the first to be found. As soon as Chimanlal gets a phone call, he reaches the house, rescues the snake and releases it in the nearby Gandhamardan hills. He said that he has rescued more than 1500 snakes so far. He said that whenever I get a call, I go and rescue it immediately. He said that if the call comes during the day while the mason is working, there is a slight delay. While rescuing a snake, he warns not to kill the snake and if bitten by a snake, do not believe the snake bite and go to the hospital immediately. The Bargarh DFO is supposed to provide a safety kit, but since it has not been received yet, Chimanlal has requested that the safety kit be provided as soon as possible.
