JNU begins PhD admissions for 2025-26; students' union launches hunger strike

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has opened online applications for PhD admissions for the academic year 2025-26, even as the students' union members launched an indefinite hunger strike on Thursday night.

The protest is against the university's decision to exclude the June 2025 UGC-NET aspirants and to not reinstate the JNU Entrance Examination (JNUEE) for PhD admissions.

According to the official schedule released by the university, the online submission of PhD application forms will take place from June 26 to July 7. A short correction window will be available from July 8 to 9, followed by the tentative issue of viva-voce invitations by July 18. The viva-voce examinations are scheduled to be held from July 25 to 31.
