New Delhi–A recent study has revealed that the number of sex workers across the country is increasing drastically. It has been concluded that Telugu states are in the top five states with the highest number of female sex workers. According to a report released by Programmatic Mapping and Population Size Estimation (PMPSE), the number of female sex workers in India is estimated to be 9,95,499.

Karnataka is at the top of the list with 15.4 percent of sex workers, followed by Andhra Pradesh (12.0%), Maharashtra (9.6%), Delhi (8.9%), and Telangana (7.6%) in the top five. The PMPSE report states that 53% of the total female sex workers in the country are in these five states. Telangana is at the top of the list of red light hotspots. In terms of density, it said that there are an average of 38 sex workers per hotspot. Andhra Pradesh is at the second position in this regard. (Local Times News Telangana
